This morning I woke up buzzing …
Yes, I mean literally buzzing. Or vibrating, maybe. Hard to
find a word for such an odd feeling. As if my whole body was humming,
especially my arms and hands. And odder still, every minute or so it stopped
just for a beat, almost as if whichever part of me the humming was coming from
needed to draw breath. I observed it for a while, then tried to ignore it, as I usually do with unwanted
physical sensations, and I must have been successful because when I “checked
back” it had stopped.
It has happened before, but only once or twice. Only ever when lying in bed. Not the strangest thing I’ve ever felt – that honour goes to the half-body hypnic jerk. You know that feeling of falling you sometimes get when you are dropping off to sleep? I’ve had that a few times just in the right side of my body – again, only when lying on my back but not at the point of falling asleep. More precisely it's more a slo-mo hypnic jerk, it kind of felt like my right side was falling slowly through space while my left was firmly supported. Very odd.

These phenomena don’t have a major impact on my life, of
course, but they are troubling. Because I don’t understand precisely why and
how they are happening they cause anxiety. But mostly I just try to forget
them, get up and get on with my day. Has anybody else experienced anything similar?
